Our History...

The concept of the Norfolk Dog Day followed a very successful equivalent in Suffolk in August 2008 in aid of the Suffolk Foundation.

The 2009 Norfolk Dog Day in aid of Help for Heroes co-incided with the deployment of the Light Dragoons on active service to Afghanistan. Parents left behind during their deployment where amongst the committed volunteers who participated and helped in the organisation of the event. The event captured the animal loving spirit of Norfolk at a point when the whole county was passionate in their support of ‘our blokes doing their bit’ in Afghanistan, and the result was a wonderful fundraising day for Norfolk raising a staggering £85,000 for Help for Heroes – more than three times the fundraising goal on the day.

One of the keys to our success has been the high profile support of the now retired Commander of the British Army, General Sir Richard Dannatt; he and his wife Pippa have a home in Norfolk. We are also extremely grateful to other high profile individuals both locally and nationally for supporting Norfolk Dog Day which in 2009 included Kate Adie, Becky Mantin, Annie Tempest, Kate Rabett, Emma Bridgewater, Bryn and Emma Parry, Ben Parkinson and Rory McKenszie.

The Temple-Richards family very kindly agreed to open their wonderful park for all to enjoy free of charge and everybody connected with the Norfolk Dog Day is extremely grateful for their generous and kind support of the day again this year.
